#20140601 - Diploma in Nursing student looking for college fee

Beneficiary is a student studying 3rd year Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. Diploma in nursing is a 3 year course plus 6 months intern and she is currently doing intern. When she was 6 years old, she lost her father and mother in a fire accident. She is having one younger sister and brother. Now all three children are under the care of her grandmother who sells fish for living.

Beneficiary scored 759/1200 in 12th standard. As per the vice principal she is the topper and outstanding student in the diploma. After her schooling, knowing her family situation people from her village encouraged her to join nursing and they paid the 1st year fee. Unfortunately neither the village people nor her grand mother were able to support her education after 1st year.

The college understands her situation and extended the fees due date till end of the degree which is Sep 2014. The college staff were also trying to reach NGOs and came to know about Aalayam through a supporter.

One of our champion talked to the college vice-principal and he was told, after her studies they would help her to get a job and she may get from Rs.4000 to Rs.8,000 as monthly salary.

Beneficiary's goal is to complete her studies, find a job and help her brother and sister with education. Her young brother recently passed 10th with 438/500 and joined 11th and he is interested in studying Commerce. Her young sister is average in studies and she is doing BA in near by college.

The total diploma course fee is Rs.1,10,000 (including tution and hostel fees) and the 1st year fee Rs.30,000 was already paid. The current balance is Rs.80,000. We talked to the correspondent and able to waive Rs.10,000 from the intern fees.
